Therefore, a variety of biological variables oscillate within an organism including: behaviour, physiological functions; and, biochemical factors. If any event within a biological system recurs at approximately regular intervals, it is generally referred to as a biological rhythm. Biological rhythms affect a variety of activities, such as the sleep-wake cycle, migration behaviour (birds, fish), seasonal fattening, reproductive cycles etc. The predominant rhythms in nature are daily rhythms e.g., rest-activity, body temperature, synthesis and/or secretion of many hormones, heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, glomerular filtration rate, renal plasma flow, electrolyte concentrations in urine etc. Studies on chronobiological aspects of physiological functions have been carried out mainly on humans and laboratory animals (Koopman et al., 1989; Refinetti and Menaker, 1992; Windle et al., 1992). Identification and Functional Characterization of Arabidopsis icl Mutant Under Trehalose Feeding in Light and Dark Conditions

Trehalose is a non-reducing sugar that plays an important role in plant growth and development. To study the role of trehalose on lipid metabolism and gluconeogenesis, Arabidopsis thaliana wild type (WT) and TreF (a line expressing trehalase) were grown on ½ MS medium with or without 100 mM sucrose and or trehalose in light or continuous darkness. In dark, trehalose leads skotomorphoge...

بررسی ریتم شبانه آنزیم ان - استیل ترانسفراز در غده پینه آل موش صحرائی

Living organisms have multiple biological rhythms. Some of these rhythms are endogenous and some are under the influence of light and dati cydes during 24-hours. Nowadays periodic changes in melatonin secretion from pineal gland and changes in N-acetyl transferase (NAT) activity which influence the melatonin secretion rate has been acknowledged as a basic rhythm. In this study NAT activity in p...

The effect of simulated weightlessness and short-term light-dark cycle on retinoic acid levels in serum and hippocampus of rats

Background: spacecrafts rotate around the Earth every 90 minutes, so the 24-hour cycle turns to 90 minutes. Retinoic acid, an active metabolite of vitamin A, plays a role in regulating the circadian rhythm and its deficiency can impair the biological clock function and consequently impair the circadian rhythm of locomotor activity. The goal of the study was to assay the effects of simulated spa...

The Effect of Creating an Artificial Night On Physiological Changes in Preterm Infants

Introduction Preterm infants are exposed to irregular light for several weeks or months in the Neonatal intensive-care unit (NICU). This lack of maternal entrainment, the exposure to irregular extrauterine lighting and care in the nursery may contribute to the disturbances in body temperature, sleep and physiological changes that are commonly experienced by preterm infants. Materials and Method...

The effect of light-dark cycle alteration on thermal and chemical pain in the male rat

Background: Animals have an internal biological clock with melatonin hormone that helps them to adapt to light/dark circles. Since melatonin is associated with an alteration in the expression and production of opioid receptors, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of changes in the light/dark circles on pain sensation in rats. Methods: This research study in order to investigate the thermal...
